We didn't choose this work. It chose us.

We work to find the joy & inspiration at every turn

For more than twenty years, we were four: Jane, Rhonda, Druvona "Dru," and Dejah. Not family by blood — family by choice. Kindred. It began at PACE Academy when a brilliant young woman named Dejah was hired to teach science there. From that day forward, we simply belonged to each other. We traveled the world together with our sons, celebrated everything worth celebrating, and built the kind of friendship most people only read about.

In May of 2026, we lost Dejah suddenly.

In the weeks that followed, while carrying our own grief, we did what her family could not face alone: we closed her home. Room by room, drawer by drawer, we sorted two decades of a life we loved. We learned which donations would honor her — furniture to shelters helping women rebuild their lives, belongings to organizations she would have chosen herself. We learned consignment and resale, long-distance logistics, and how to make a hundred small decisions a day while your heart is breaking.

And we learned something no one tells you: families in grief are handed an enormous logistical job at the exact moment they are least able to do it. The services that exist are transactional. Grieving people can feel that.

So we became what we needed and couldn't find.

Our Story

Kindred Estate Solutions was created by Dejah's North Carolina friends — Jane, Rhonda, and Dru — to carry that weight for other families, especially those navigating sudden and traumatic loss. The name is not a marketing word — it's who we were to Dejah, and who we'll be to you: people who show up like family. We bring professional backgrounds in education leadership and individualized, trauma-informed support work, and something no training can provide: we have stood in that doorway ourselves. The way we work even has her name: the Dejah Compassion Standard — patience, respect, and meaningful placement, in every home, every time.

Every home we close, we close the way we closed Dejah's — with patience, with respect, and with love.
